Powell In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session

In-Home lifestyle newborn sessions are so sweet. This Powell in-home newborn session was no exception. There’s something beautiful about being able to join a family in their own space during the early days of post-partum. Everyone is settling in, finding their new rhythm and being allowed in to document it is such an honor.

This little guy arrived a few weeks early, but was thriving for his newborn session. I usually recommend newborn sessions be scheduled for 5-14 days after birth. Sometimes they’re a little later if there was a NICU stay involved, but they’re still just as special.

In-home lifestyle newborn sessions are an amazing option for families with premature newborns. You don’t have to stress about getting everyone out of the house on time or worry about pushing their tolerance with lots of posing. They can simply be. We let them hang out exactly where they want to be most: in their parents arms.

During their in-home lifestyle newborn session, I remember asking Alexis how her second birth experience had gone with a preemie compared to her first experience. She said it was way easier with little Cal this time around.

She told me they chose the name Callan because they wanted to be able to call him Cal. I took the liberty of googling the meaning of the name. It means battle or rock. This seemed particularly fitting to me for a preemie who was thriving.

I love to recommend flowy dresses for mama and an outfit that will show hands and feet while completely covering their diapers for baby.

Alexis chose a flowy green cotton dress that was the perfect blend of casual, beautiful, and comfy. She put baby Cal in an adorable bamboo knot gown from Caden Lane. This brought such a relaxed and organic feel to their sweet newborn session.

The nursery was so intentionally designed around vintage cars and trucks. Perfect for a little baby boy. This family’s attention to detail was so evident from the carefully chosen pictures on the wall to the functional street rug on the floor. This is a space I know Cal and his brother will enjoy for years.

We photographed most of their session in the nursery before moving down to the couch for a few more photos at the end.
